Chapter 1. The Beginning.

Every story has a beginning, middle and an end. Some stories start with the middle, others with the end, and some people like to start where it all started — with the beginning.

I can’t tell you whether this post is about the beginning, the middle or the end. In a way it is about all three in one go. It is about a beginning, a first; the first ever public reading of The Rumplings Age of Dawn. It is about a middle because this is not the first step in sharing the Rumplings with the world, it is one of hundreds of steps that have lead to this moment. And it is an end, because never again will it be the first ever public reading of the Rumplings Age of Dawn. That has now happened.

What I do hope is that this was the first of many, and that we’re one step closer to getting the Rumplings to be a part of the cultural identity of children around the world — we want to inspire them to be crafty and creative, we want them to pursue their dreams and to find pleasure and happiness in the journey, more than anything else.

And so, without further ado, here is a recording of the first ever public reading of The Rumplings, Age of Dawn, held at Burley Fisher Books, on the 18th of June, 2017:

The start of something big?

It is really exciting to be able to sit here and write about a second news agency wanting to tell the story of the Rumplings.

The Rumplings News Article 1

Earlier today the Portuguese newspaper Diário de Notícias published an article about the Rumplings, where Francisco tells a bit about the origins of the Rumplings and his desire to have the story reach thousands of readers around the world.

For those of you who would like to read the article (it is in Portuguese) it can be found here.

The Rumplings on the news!

We have great news to share! RTP, the Portuguese equivalent to the BBC, will be interviewing Francisco B.G.M, the author and creator of the Rumplings, for a segment about Portuguese people living abroad. The topic of the interview will be Francisco’s first book, Age of Dawn, a chapter book of friendship and adventure, about foodie creatures called Rumplings.

On the 18th of June 2017, the RTP crew will come out to East London, to interview Francisco at his home. The fun part - and what this post is really about - is the reading at Burley Fisher Books, where you are all invited for an afternoon of exciting storytelling and family fun (the book is for 7 to 11 year olds, so bring your young-ones)!

Tickets are free and you can book your spot here.

The reading will take place at 3pm on the 18th of June at Burley Fisher Books (400 Kingsland Road, E84AA), and Francisco will read two chapters of the book, followed by signing copies and giving away 20 free copies.

If you have a young-one that would enjoy a day of storytelling please come and join us for a fun afternoon of adventure! Sign-up to the event on the Eventbrite page here, and please do share this with all your friends.

Francisco B.G.M. lives in East London, and self-published Age of Dawn, the first story about creatures of his making called Rumplings. In a beautifully illustrated chapter book, Francisco creates a world where all creatures are foodies and everything in their world exists to appreciate and better understand food. On the day of the event there will also be copies of Age of Dawn on sale in the bookstore.

The Rumplings Age of Dawn

In the most unusual of places live the most unexpected of creates — The Rumplings. They are cute, furry faced creatures who are obsessed with food. And it is no wonder that they are. Three out of every four days they have food fall from the sky, and so they dedicate all their time to studying it, worshiping it and figuring out what makes a flavour a flavour.

In 2016 after the idea was born, Francisco set off to write his first every children’s book, and with the help of some friends — Maria, Marcelo, and Mariana- he wrote the first ever book, Age of Dawn, as well as recorded a podcast version of the book and got it funded on Kickstarter.

It is early days, but the book is off to a great start with mostly 5 star reviews across Amazon, Foyles and Waterstones. Find out more by visiting www.rumplings.com
